Mangrove House

Challenge

The aim was to create a sophisticated home that still felt relaxed and family-friendly. The ground floor was originally divided into three separate rooms — kitchen, dining room, and living room. Both the dining and living areas suffered from limited natural light, and the living room felt disconnected from the kitchen, making everyday life and entertaining less fluid.

We wanted to reuse existing furniture wherever possible, while also introducing more seating for family and friends. The priority was to ensure the space worked practically for day-to-day living — from relaxed family time to social gatherings and games.

Concept

The ground floor was opened up to create a generous, multifunctional space, with distinct zones defined through a broken-plan layout. Large glazed doors were added to the kitchen to draw in southern light, brightening the interior and strengthening the connection to the garden.A warm palette of neutrals and earthy greens provides a calm, timeless backdrop, complemented by reupholstered existing furniture and carefully selected new pieces. Darker panelling grounds the living area, while bespoke cabinetry with soft curves adds elegant storage. Layered textures, considered lighting, and refined finishes elevate the scheme, balancing luxury with comfortable, family-friendly living.

Outcome

The redesign completely transformed the ground floor, turning it into a functional, characterful, and welcoming home. The balance of sophistication and everyday practicality produced a space that feels stylish yet comfortable — a place where they can relax, entertain, and enjoy time together as a family.
